Klondyke Garden Centre
A proven track record in delivering what the client wants has meant Protan has hit the roof at the new Strikes Garden Centre in Yorkshire.
Klondyke Group Ltd, the company behind the William Strikes Garden Centres, is expanding its network of 22 centres. The latest, in Garforth, follows what is now a standard construction methodology for the company, employing a steel frame topped with a vaulted roof, using Protan single ply membrane.
Richmond Roofing has applied approx. 3000m2 of Protan Ex-A substrate in lead grey to create the five 36m long barrels on the roof, each with an arc of 8m.
“We have already worked for Klondyke using Protan. We have a core design standard, which evolves as we execute each build. Single ply is the client’s preferred choice as it removes the need for separate valley gutters which can be a weak point for water ingress.. The client wanted clean aesthetics internally, hence why an adhered system rather than mechanical fix has been employed at Garforth,” explained Richmond’s Jonathan Gilbertson.
Fleece-backed EX-A is the only system available from Protan that uses adhesives. It has a proven durability of 30+ years, and is quick to install. Protan membranes are developed to cope with even the most extreme weather conditions without detriment: they are certified to ≤ -30°.
Established some 75 years ago, and still privately-owned, Protan is one of the top three membrane manufacturers in Europe. A full support service, from NBS specification and in-house CAD design through to technical advice is provided from Protan UK’s Warrington office.
